where is development taking us ?

last friday i attended a debate competiton at a college function.I could not particiate in it though due to my illness, but attending a heated DEBATE session always gives some sort of inspiration and some food for thought and i being a law student require some sort of intellectual nourishment every now n then. Anyways the topic of the debate was "India's development is taking place at the cost of the underpriveleged".....the topic being very relevant in the backdrop of heated countrywide discussions amongst politicanados, economists and intellectuals, the debate competition no wonder was an equally interesting one though some of the points given out were repititions of the facts we daily come across in the newspapers.....but still it was interesting.
I joined the place at a much later time but i did not miss the strong contenders with their arguments....some supporting the motion raised the issues of Nandigram,Mumbai's Dharavi slum and it's adjoining airport,co. executives taking crores as salary while daily labourers struggling hard to arrange a square meal a day and blahh blahh.......guys against the motion verbally blasted their opponents with stronger arguments saying that those people were in world of fairytales who can only dream sweet things and complain against each and everything....even the policies of development.
The debate ended with speeches from eminent professors saying that development is the naturel tendency of mankind and always has been at the cost some people.......
Now i as a onlooker consider myself to be a very common man not having the slightest knowledge of statistics,FDI or other such high sounding terms what will development give me....
the development that has taken place in India - i do not by any means is depriving anybody....due to various historical reasons we never had any sort of an industrial revolution...now when it is taking place why should we oppose it now......each time a new co . comes up , it creates hundreds of job opportunities -a thing not even thought of 15 years back...in fact private investment in evry sector is now recover the losses we suffered by 40 yrs of bureaucracy . The supporters of the motion also called India an agricultural country and that SEZs are depriving us of our farmlands......now i would on this point say that how can we call ourselves agriculturists when our annual prodution is not enough even to feed ourselves....rather if an SEZ starts organic farming there can somebody point out what is the loss suffered thereby.....?

there are many other thngs i would be pointing out in the coming days........till then i would like u to post u'r comments................bye !!!
